I’m ashamed to live in Ontario. Just because we’ve had a warm winter so far, it seems like we’ve forgotten how to cope with snow and ice. I looked out the window and there’s about 2cm of snow on the ground, and some light freezing rain. Now, it’s the top story on the news. Flights have been canceled, people are staying home from work, and there’s a lot of general whining happening. I remember we used to get snow so high it would drift as high as my head. We’d just go out and shovel it and get on with life. We used to laugh at people from Vancouver who would freak out in the same way we’re collectively freaking out now. Our toughness as Ontarians is the latest casualty to global warming 🙁

Our legal system says if you walk across someone’s property (personal or commercial) and you slip on the ice, you get to sue them for an obscene amount of money. It matters not that it was in the middle of the ice storm and you couldn’t have cleared it yet. It doesn’t even matter if you were wearing inappropriate footwear. So, the knee-jerk reaction of school boards or anyone else serving the public is to close when there is even a suggestion of bad weather.
The public simply reacts to that initial over-reaction in a chain reaction. GRIN
Actually, I read on CNN that it is believed that this is not caused by global warming. As you may have seen, the midwest got pounded by a hell of a lot of winter this season so far. Many currents (including el niño) are balancing out because last year was very cold.
i hear ya 🙁
aww
i’m ashamed.
I had ice all over my car for the first time today! it was kinda exciting. 🙂
yeah, i read same as diny… cept later i was thinking it might be propaganda.

I Love Snow and yeah I remember them drifts…wicked…and I don’t mean Tokyo!!! 😉
I got to flex my quattro…”outta my way…beotch!!”
that was after spending 20 minutes scraping ice off my windows…small price to pay I’d say!!
I’m told now that I’m a complete wuss after moving to San Francisco from Kansas. It’s completely laughable and pathetic, but now 45 degrees Fahrenheit now is SOOOO unbearably cold.
