Well, I did it. I put my beloved Baby D on sale at Ebay. It has to go though. I need the money to help pay for Pappa D, and I doubt I’d use it now, even as a backup. I’m hoping someone will make a really nice Christmas gift of it.
I got a sign up package in the mail from the Professional Photographers of Ontario and Professional Photographers of Canada. I’m still trying to work out if it’s worth it or not. As far as I can tell, membership allows me to qualify to use various titles, like Master of Photography, which I can earn by entering their juried contests. Membership also allows me the privilege of paying them more money to go to conferences and rub shoulders with other photographers. They have special rates on Visa and Mastercard, as well as insurance packages.
The other benefit is that I can earn “legitimacy” by being a member. I thought that producing quality photography earned you legitimacy? I guess paying $500/year does the same thing. I’m pretty much decided that I’ll go with the cheaper route of just making nice photos. 🙂
wow i didnt even know there was such an organization. and apparently i was not missing much at all! 😛
it’s probably another clique-y system 😛
Damn Kev … starting at 100$ for the baby D?! I woulda given you that for it!! hehe
POP and PAC … personally I think you are doing FINE without those “privileges”. Save your money to get that slick Subaru 😉
i went to a meeting of one of these, that was for free (watching slides and their evaluations). it was fun to see all those cool photos back then (it was 3-4 years ago), and “rubbing shoulders” was fun but entirely useless.
they are all highly stuck up, and a lot of them are doing photography for the money, not for the love.
so, just skip it all man. its just total BS.
